My debut album, Born in a Time Retold, is a heartfelt folk-jazz collection shaped by patience, personal history, and a deep trust in the creative process. I drew a lot of inspiration from my grandfather, a western visual artist who brought disparate memories of West Texas and South America to life on a single canvas.
Much like his paintings, I approached these compositions as my own kind of sonic collage. Instead of trying to force the music, I stepped back and allowed long-dormant ideas to naturally connect and realize themselves over time. This shift in focus guided me away from dense improvisation and toward creating singable, bluegrass-tinged melodies crafted directly from my guitar.
Ultimately, I wanted to create an organic, alive musical landscape.

Recently endorsed by Canopus drums Rodrigo Bonelli’s most recent album, “Brooklyn Sessions” was considered for a Grammy nomination in the “Latin Jazz” category in 2021. This collaborative album from his instrumental group, Brasil Trio +1, features original compositions in a variety of Brazilian styles.
Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Rodrigo Bonelli relocated to the United States at an early age to further his musical studies. After working as a freelance musician in New England for several years, Rodrigo moved to New York City, where he currently resides.

John Koozin is a New York-based bassist, composer, and educator whose narrative-driven playing draws inspiration from cinema, visual arts, literature, faith, video games, and close collaborators. Koozin seeks to spark dialogue and unity through sound.
Originally from Houston, Texas, John grew up in a musical household and attended the acclaimed High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. He also studied at Domaine Forget in Québec before relocating to New York in 2014 with a scholarship to The New School for Contemporary Music. His mentors include Paul Ellison, François Rabbath, Linda May Han Oh, Reggie Workman, and Renaud Garcia-Fons—luminaries whose influence continues to echo through his work.
